Product Roadmap – ConicIT for Cloud

Cloud computing infrastructure is a way to abstract away hardware from the software infrastructure – or in other words hardware virtualization. In the cloud, software executes on virtual machines that make the physical hardware topology irrelevant, all that matters is the logical topology induced by an application and its components at runtime. These are the same virtualization paradigms which have been around in the world of mainframes for decades, and are providing us here at ConicIT with a map of where cloud computing is headed.

As large transactional applications move towards cloud deployments for production, resource contention will be the main cause of production performance problems in the cloud just like they are on the mainframe. Once physical resources are virtualized and shared, a specific workload can cause unforeseen interference between resources and cause production performance problems – no matter whether it is a private cloud, public cloud or hybrid cloud. These kinds of performance issues are the hardest to diagnose and fix – exactly the same problem ConicIT addresses on the mainframe.

As application performance monitoring (APM) capabilities mature in the cloud, the trend will be more towards monitoring tools that are transaction and application centric – exactly the same as the mainframe today. At ConicIT we have always had our feet on the ground, solving real world performance problems in the highly virtualized transactional environment of the mainframe – but we know that future of virtualization includes the cloud – and that is exactly where we are headed. Anywhere you have a performance problem in a highly transactional virtualized environment, that is where you’ll find we can help.

With our feet on the ground, and our head in the cloud – we plan to expand our performance management capabilities to cloud computing, so stay tuned…
